Vivid Video Sues Pornotube

December 14, 2007
Vivid Video, one of the largest producers of adult films, has filed legal suit against x-rated video hosting company Pornotube. Pornotube is like an x-rated version of Youtube, with the difference that adult content is permitted and encouraged to be shared.

Pornotube is owned by Data Conversions Inc., an adult entertainment broadcasting company based in Charlotte, N.C. Vivid has filed lawsuits against Pornotube and its parent company. This federal lawsuit is for violation of copyrights. Vivid alleges that Pornotube allows users to upload copyrighted Vivid Video movie clips.

User of Pornotube are allowed to upload clips of porn videos. The onus is on the user to not violate any copyrights when uploading files. Users often take clips of full porn movies created by studios such as Vivid Video and upload them. This causes harm to studios such as Vivid which produce this adult content to sell. Vivid video sells it's movies both through traditional adult video stores as well as through subscription downloads on its Vivid Video official site

Steven Hirsch, Vivid Video's co-chairman, stated "We've decided to take a stand and say 'no more.'" "We will go after all the free sites." From this statement it may appear that Vivid is going after one of the largest and most public websites in an effort to send a message to all lesser-known adult sites. Vivid Video will not allow any infringement of it's copyrights.
